| During the months of August and September, the Charlestown Fire District Departments (Cross' Mills and Charlestown/Richmond) and DCFD, along with units from Richmond-Carolina Fire have met twice together at Ninigret Park in Charlestown to participate in water shuttle drills utilizing tankers, pumpers, and portable tanks from the departments.
The drill involved setting up a water supply from a draft source, shuttling the water with tankers to be dumped into portable tanks at a dump site, and pumping the water to attack teams through attack pumpers. The different departments switched roles during the trainings to provide good cross-training on the different activities involved.
Dunn's Corners and Charlestown are often called to each others incidents and have assisted each other many times over the past few years. This gave both departments a slightly more relaxed (as opposed to at a fire scene) chance to work with each other and assess each others' equipment and capabilities. It also provided an opportunity for those who work the fire scenes a chance to see who it is that's supplying their water, and vice-versa for those providing it.
