| DCFD was summoned to a reported structure fire at 29 Moonlight Drive at approximately 16:30 on Sunday 6/03.
The fire was first reported by a neighbor, and was dispatched as a working structure fire with flames showing.
Engine 2 was first on scene and confirmed that fire was showing from two windows and the eaves on the westerly side of the single family contemporary style residence. Chief Frink, arriving right after E2, immediately asked Westerly Dispatch for one engine from Misquamicut and an ambulance to standby.
Engine 2 attacked the fire through the two windows with CAFS from its bumper mounted turret gun. This was enough to knock the fire down while crews readied the hand lines.
Engine 6, next on scene, dropped the hydrant gear and LDH at the hydrant diagonally across the street from the residence and then proceeded up the driveway to meet Engine 2. The LDH was mated to Engine 2 for water supply while its two crosslays and front trash line were pulled to fight the fire. Tanker 1, Engine 4 and Engine 7 also arrived on scene, and equipment and manpower were used from these apparatus as well.
Interior attack teams were able to knock down the fire, which was mainly confined to the northwest corner of the house, fairly quickly, and overhaul commenced to ensure that there was no extension into the walls or attic.
A team also made its way to the roof to provide vertical ventilation over the fire room, and a positive pressure fan was placed into action to assist in clearing the air after the vent hole was completed.
The fire marshal's office was summoned to investigate the fire's cause, and the building inspector was asked to evaluate the condition of the structure.
In all, approximately 20 DCFD firefighters responded to the scene. The occupant of the residence was able to escape in the very early stages of the fire and suffered no serious injuries.
Thanks to Misquamicut Fire Dept. for supplying an engine and manpower, and for setting up a roadblock, and to Westerly Ambulance for sending a rig with manpower to monitor the condition of the firefighters on scene.
