| When we heard about Second Deputy Chief Carl Johnson's recent experience at a fire, the Dunn's Corners Fire Department agreed we should share it on our website. In Chief Johnson's own words ...
"At a chimney fire and a lady comes up to me and says 'Carl can you come over and say hi to my daughter?' Never meeting this lady before I was slightly confused but agreed. She brought me to the back of their car, opened the door where there were two little girls. One says 'firefighter Carl, we came outside to our meeting place, we did what you taught us.' It then dawned on that they were in the kindergarten class that a few of us had just done fire prevention with. I can honestly say I was pretty choked up.
"I realized then that in the 9 years of teaching fire prevention to little kids they do pay attention and it can potentially save lives. As the call ended I hear 'firefighter Carl' I turn around and get a big hug from the little girl who had learned so much.
"I am so thankful today and always for my amazing wife and son who allow me to sacrifice so much family time for the fire department, my friends, and the amazing guys at DCFD that made a moment like this possible."
DCFD is proud of Carl and of all our firefighters who work so hard to teach the children in our community how to prevent and respond to fire emergencies. |
