In recent years lithium ion batteries have become popular. They are used in many different products, cell phones, tablets, e-bikes, e-scooters, electric cars and even more. With the increased popularity there is also increased fire related incidents. If you have lithium ion batteries that you charge in your house make sure you charge them out of direct sunlight, and away from any living quarters. If you suspect that a battery might be on fire immediately close the door to the room and call 911, don’t attempt to put the fire out. Lithium ion battery fires require special equipment to extinguish and produce very harmful off gases. ( photo from New York City Fire Department (FDNY) )
