| DCFD responded to several incidents over this Father's Day Weekend: - On Friday evening a call came in for an alarm activation on Wells Lane in Charlestown. It was a false alarm. - A car pulled away from a gas pump at Michael's Texaco in Charlestown late Saturday afternoon with the nozzle still in the car's tank. Car 8 arrived on scene to report that the pump was not on at the time, there was no spill, and the break-away feature of the hose had worked properly. All units were cancelled enroute, as there was no hazard. - Also on late Saturday afternoon, a small fire in the woods was reported at 34 Wildflower Drive. E2, E6, E7, and E4 responded. Initially, the fire was difficult to locate, as it was in the woods behind a house, with no people or smoke intially visible. As E7 pulled up to the area, someone did come out to wave them down and confirm the location of the fire. The fire was extinguished using the booster line from E7 and a water can. E2, E6, and E7 responded directly to the scene, while E4 stood by with a cover assignment at Station 1. - At approximately 2:20 on Sunday morning, DCFD received a call, along with Westerly Ambulance, for a report of a swimmer having jumped off the Weekapaug Bridge. E2 and E7 responded, as did the Water Rescue Team in Lt. Tom Algiere's boat. The areas of the breachway were searched from the boat, as well as by crews walking along the breachway with lights. E2 provided lighting from its tower from the bridge, and E7 provided lighting further down the breachway from the Weekapaug Fire District Beach parking lot. The boat also searched several hundred feet of the beaches on either side of the breachway. Misquamicut Fire responded with their ATV and assisted with a search of the beach on the westerly side of the breachway. After searching for approximately one hour, nothing was found and all units were cleared. |
