| At 1:01 AM on the morning of 1/28, Dunn's Corners Fire Department was toned out for a possible structure fire at 93 Ross Hill Road in Charlestown. Asst. Chief Haggerty, first on scene, reported a fully involved vehicle fire with exposure issues. One engine each from Bradford Fire Department and Cross' Mills Fire Deparment were requested due to the uncertainty of the fire spread to the nearby exposures. They were returned with thanks once the fire was under control. E2, E6, E4, and Tanker 1 responded in snowy conditions. E2 proceeded up the long dirt driveway and found a dump truck fully involved next to a shed. Foam was applied to the vehicle and the fire was quickly knocked down. Full extinguishment was impeded by the cab doors being welded shut by the intense heat. The circular saw on E2 was employed to open the door, and extinguishment and overhaul were able to be completed. The truck was a total loss. The fire was noticed by a Charlestown Police Officer on routine patrol in the area (thank you!). Charlestown Ambulance/Rescue also had a unit on standby at the scene. Upon completion, several Junior Members of the department re-packed the long LDH lay that E2 had run to the house from the road, and all units returned. |
