The Dunn's Corners Fire Department recently took delivery of a 100' E-One tower ladder truck. This truck is the first in the department's history as well as the first piece of apparatus unique to the area (The closest tower trucks before were as far away as Kingston, RI and Old Mystic, CT). The truck will be providing the department with a better way to serve the community as well as improving the safety of us, the firefighters.

The truck is a 2008 E-One Tower Ladder based of the E-One Cyclone II chassis powered by a Detroit Series 60 engine. The ladder is 100' in length and has the weight capacity of 1305 pounds in the basket at any extension and angle. An added benefit on the truck is the 2000 gallon per minute pump with the available on-board 300 gallon water tank. Unique features on the ladder include a 3-way rear vision back up camera as well as a hydraulic generator. The truck has all LED warning lights as well as two different sirens.

As with any new piece of fire apparatus, training is always important to protect the asset of the truck and the safety of the firefighters operating it. In saying that, the new truck will not be entirely in service until early 2009, but will be making appearances around the district. So if you happen to see the truck out and operating, feel free to stop by and take a closer look and ask questions.
