Annual Smokey Bear Parade Set For July 10th

The Dunn's Corners Fire Department would like to invite everyone in the Westerly/Charlestown areas to the 2008 annual Smokey Bear Parade on Thursday, July 10th. Many local fire departments, ambulance corps, and police departments will be participating in this year's parade. Firefighter Mike Whitt Receives Award For Heroic Life Saving Efforts

On Tuesday, June 10th, Firefighter Mike Whitt received an award for his heroic life saving efforts on September 24, 2007. On that day, FF Whitt was at his daytime job working as a lifeguard at the local YMCA. Dan Boyle, a Stonigton resident, was at the pool swimming when he went into cardiac arrest. A couple of nights ago, we had a call just before eleven at night to investigate a smell of smoke from a resident on West Beach Road. Charlestown Police arrived first, and advised dispatch that the smell might be coming in from across the pond, possibly the Shelter Harbor area. Firefighters Train On WHFD's Old Ladder 104

On Wednesday, May 28th, DCFD firefighters trained on Watch Hill FD's old Ladder 104. Deputy Chief Bob Peacock and Captain Jane Perkins of the WHFD were the instructors for the evening. They went over the various features of the truck including how to operate the ladder from the turret. DCFD And Bomb Squad Respond To Call Of Uncovered Hand Grenade

On May 26th, the DCFD was called to the scene of a home owner who dug up a hand grenade in their backyard. Crews from the DCFD and WPD contained the area and notified the State Police and Bomb Squad. The Bomb Squad dismantled the grenade and determined it to be WW2 vintage. It was also determined that the grenade had been previously deactivated by having the contents boiled out of it. ... DCFD Responds To Route 1 Accident

On May 22nd at approximately 1251, the DCFD was toned for a 1 car MVA on Route 1 in the vicinity of Chamber Way. Upon arrival it was determined the vehicle went over an embankment after crossing 3 lanes of travel. DCFD crews aided WAC in the removal of the patient from the woods.
